Practical limits on what we can promise about products shown on a screen and installed in your home.

Colors and finishes on screen

Product photographs are taken under controlled lighting and then displayed on your screen, which has its own calibration. Metal finishes are the hardest case: brass, antique bronze, brushed nickel, and matte black all shift noticeably between daylight, warm bulbs, and cool bulbs. Treat images as a close guide rather than an exact match. If precise color matters for your project, email us and we will describe the finish in words.

Dimensions and tolerance

Dimensions listed on product pages are accurate to within normal manufacturing tolerance. Small variations between individual units are expected and are not a defect. Measure your space before ordering — particularly for mirrors, shelving, curtain hardware, and anything that has to fit between two fixed points.

Installation and safe use

Many products we sell are installed in a home, and installation is where things go wrong. Please read this section before you start.

Electrical work. Any product that connects to household wiring should be installed by a licensed electrician in accordance with your local electrical code. Turn off power at the breaker before working on a circuit.
Voltage. Lighting and electrical products we sell are specified for standard United States household current, 120V. Do not use them on other supplies without an appropriate transformer.
Wall and ceiling mounting. Anchor to a stud or use anchors rated for the weight and the wall type. Drywall alone will not hold a loaded shelf or a heavy mirror.
Anti-tip. Freestanding shelving and tall units must be secured to the wall where the manufacturer supplies anti-tip hardware. This matters most in homes with children or pets.
Weight limits. Where a product page states a maximum load, that figure comes from the manufacturer. Where no figure is given, we do not have a tested number and we will not invent one — use conservative judgment.
Manufacturer instructions. Follow the instructions supplied in the box. Where they differ from anything on this site, follow the instructions in the box.

We are not liable for damage or injury resulting from improper installation, use inconsistent with the manufacturer's instructions, or modification of a product.

Bulbs and accessories

Light bulbs, batteries, mounting hardware, and styling accessories shown in product photographs are not included unless the product page lists them in the box contents. Product pages state the socket type and maximum wattage where applicable; do not exceed the stated wattage.
